Activities in Diskit

Diskit Monastery:
Perched dramatically on a rocky hill above the village, Diskit Monastery is the largest and oldest gompa in Nubra Valley. Wander through prayer halls adorned with Buddhist murals, ancient stupas, and a preserved statue of Cho Rinpoche (Crowned Buddha), feeling the deep spiritual aura. The panoramic views from the monastery showcase desert dunes, winding rivers, and snow-capped mountains — truly breathtaking.

Maitreya Buddha Statue:
Standing tall at 32 meters (106 feet), the golden statue of the future Buddha faces Pakistan, symbolizing peace and harmony. Located just below Diskit Monastery and inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 2010, it offers a mesmerizing panoramic view of the Nubra Valley and remains a powerful spiritual icon for both locals and visitors.

Monastic School:
Supported by the Tibet Support Group, the Monastic School provides a unique blend of modern and traditional education to local Ladakhi children. Visitors are welcome to interact with the students, offering a heartwarming glimpse into the educational life within the monastic community.
